My day started out very pleasant. I hopped out of bed after a full night's sleep feeling great! I woke up this precious angel...
and fed her, then I decided I would finish cleaning our bath tub....a project I started last night. I turned on the water to fill up the tub in order to rinse out the jets. Went back to the living room to check on Kinley, got some coffee and decided we would have our Bible time. (I am reading the one year Bible to her each morning). About an hour later, I remember......I never turned off the water! Aaaaahhhhh!
Yep, you guessed it water EVERYWHERE!! Bathroom, our closet, study closet, bedroom, hallway. And not just a little damp...about 1.5 to 2 inches in most places. I, of course, panic and then the tears begin to flow. I turned off the water and called Zach. No answer, he's in a meeting. I begin pulling towels out of every closet and cabinet I can find. Then I remember we have a wet-vac! So I call my dad to get instructions on how to work it. Thanks daddy for the quick response and great directions!
This powerful tool is my new BFF!
(Not sure if it is really a power tool, but I sure felt powerful using it!)
So I get to work, not sure if I am doing any good, because I am crying about as much as I am vaccuuming up. Thank goodness Kinley decided to take a nap while I am getting my workout using the wet-vac. Honestly, that thing works great! I dumped out 2 buckets of water before Zach got home.
What seems like hours later (about 30 minutes) I am able to get in touch with Zach and he comes to my rescuse and helps me get my composure. Then we assess the damage. Pretty bad, but it could be much worse. Ok, I'm cool now.
We spent the next 4 hours pulling back the carpet, ripping up the pad, soaking up the small lake that is in our home and purchasing fans to help dry things a little quicker. Here's a peek...
My prince to the rescue!!
I'll share a secret. My husband is always trying to rig things up. Usually duct-tape is involved. Normally this irritates me to no end because it his "rigging" works for about a minute then usually causes a bigger mess than it was to begin with. But not today, my friend. I've never been so proud as I was of the classy clothes line Zach rigged up. Made from tie down straps...and works like a charm. Take a look... You may want to invest in one yourself!!
Every towel in my home is now soaking wet so now I am beginning to wash them so I can soak up more water. I do want to give a big shout out to the Sham-Wow (pictured below).
This was a Christmas present to my Dad. Not sure if you've seen the infomercial, but I have to say those things work great. It was kind of a joke giving the Shaw-Wow to Dad for Christmas. Then I thought it was pretty funny that he gave us a couple shams to keep (the package deal comes with 6 or 8 shams). The Sham-Wow also saved the day in soaking up a lot of water. They sell these at Wal-greens or you can order them online. Everyone should own a Sham-Wow. Never know when your bathtub might overflow!!
Gabby and Jetta think all the comotion is great! It's like a obstacle course with the carpet pulled back, doors of their hinges, stuff pulled out of the closets. Here's Jetta on one of her sprints through the house!
Ok, so I better get back to my wet-vac and sham-wow. Hope you enjoyed the tale of the Freeze Flood of 2009. The moral of the story...don't clean your bathtub. Just kidding!
Simply remember to turn the water off! :)

OH MY GOODNESS! BLESS YOUR HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sounds like something would do.
Oh my gosh. That just sounds awful to have to deal with. I'm really bad about starting one cleaning project in the house and then forgetting to finish it; like laundry! That is a big ole mess.
That is craziness! That sounds like something I would do. And I totally understand about the "rigging" stuff up... Wayman does that alot and doesn't have the best streak. So glad you guys were able to get it cleaned up.
Oh no, Erin. Chalk it up as your first "mommy episode." It will happen again--next time you can't find your iron or a book you need, look in the fridge. Not that it happened to me, I'm just saying...LOL. --Rhonda
1. This is so you, Erin! But also so me...
2. Zach looks like he did 10 years ago
3. Must be a guy thing-duct tape goes everywhere with us. It is currently holding up plastic window linings in Paxtin's room.
4. Sham WOW is also my best friend
= D
That stinks. Sorry. Zach has always been that way about everything. It can and will be fixed...with duct tape. His favorite accessory. Pregnancy brain sticks!!
Don't know you but found you thru my friend Laurie's blog. I just want you to know that I have done the same thing. Blame in on a mommy brain. I've also boiled teapots to death. :)
Yikes. Flooding is awful at the best of times, but seriously, you like the Sham Wow? My husband has been converted by the infomercial and keeps trying to convince me to get a pack....hmmm...
